More on the road network structure HERE.
In terms of traffic, the full capacity of the road network is used only in certain sections and at certain times of day during the traffic peaks.
During such daily or weekly periods of time, the actual momentary request for traffic capacity in the given place is higher than the designed currently available capacity of the road. The consequence is the formation of queues. Their frequency rate increases with our living standard. It is necessary to complete the basic network of high-capacity roads including city by-passes.
As the number of vehicles increases along with our living standard, even after the completion of the entire road network the number of motorways and roads shall not be sufficient to accommodate all traffic in all circumstances.
Especially in densely inhabited cities we shall always be limited by the spatial possibilities of the urban area development as well as the environmental aspects.
